Allamanda cathartica

Common Name : Yellow Bell, Golden Trumpet , Butter cup Flower

Allamanda cathartica, a woody , vigorous , evergreen climber grows to a height of 2-3 mts.with yellow, trumphet shaped flowers. It flowers profusely in sunny areas and donot tolerate shade , salty or alkaline conditions. It has delicate and fruity scent. It can be easily propagated through cuttings.


The genus name Allamanda derives from Frédéric-Louis Allamand (1735–1803), a Swiss botanist of the late 18th century.
The City of Canóvanas in the Caribbean Island of Puerto Rico, has named the Allamanda Carthica (Yellow Bell) its official flower/plant due to the vast amount of these thru the entire city and its rivers. It's also in their seal and downtown plaza.
